The Electronic Cargo Tracking Note (ECTN).

ECTN is a trade facilitation document which contains the summary of goods for declaration from the port of shipment. It is an admissible and compulsory requirement during the declaration of goods at customs.

With the exception of cargo by sea, air, rail, road or river, any cargo that arrives at destination without a valid and certified ECTN from the port of shipment cannot be cleared through the customs. To regularize the situation, an ECTN must be issued and validated online. It is left with the exporter or his representative must undergo this formality.

Who and how to establish the ECTN??

Generally speaking, it is up to the forwarder to edit the ECTN. However, it is advisable to always get the view of the beneficiary in case he cannot or does not want to handle it.

The ECTN can be prepared before the departure of the cargo, but it must be validated and certified upon confirmation of departure. This can avoid any additional modification costs in case departure is postponed.

What if I did not establish an ECTN?

Any cargo not accompanied by the ECTN constitutes an infringement of the country's regulations in force. The goods risk being blocked and penalties applied at the destination.
